SO what is peer coaching anyway?

SO what is peer coaching anyway?

Peer coaching is an intentional partnership between two people, neither of whom has authority or oversight over the other.

It’s a mutual exchange of ideas, insights, reflections, challenges and practices where both sides support each other.

There’s no Yoda and no Luke, there’s no pressure or performance anxiety, you’re both there to collaborate and solve problems together on equal terms.
Yes, we were told peer pressure was bad when we were kids. But that was before we’d heard the word ‘accountability’.

Having a peer on your side as you figure out your goals helps hold you to account when it comes to smashing them.

That’s because our peers have influence over us - and us over them - and when we use that influence wisely, great things happen.

In real time

Connecting with someone who’s going through a similar challenge at the same time as you helps both of you put an actionable plan in place right now.

Working with peers puts theory into practice in real life, in real time.

You face challenges head on, together; and you unlock opportunities as they arise, together.
OK, maybe we’ve overused the ‘c’ word here, but that’s because it’s so important.

We do our best work when we do it with others, and we’re happiest when we do our best work, so need we say more?

Actually we will, because benefits like developing our soft skills, building our confidence, increasing our feelings of camaraderie and belonging, and ultimately helping us get where we want to be are worthy of more words.

How peers power google’s culture

Steohan Thoma
STEPHAN THOMA, XOOGLER + VOCO ADVISOR
“Google has always believed in the importance of learning, and that the best kind of learning happens in the flow of work. That was the driving philosophy behind the creation of the Googler-to-Googler peer learning programme… social learning is what underpins truly effective learning cultures.”
